General Manager's Report

As the AMSF season of success continues in 2010, it is with great pleasure I can speak of the talented young Australian drivers that have succeeded on the international motor sport stage.

Having been through both of the AMSF’s sporting programs, AMSF International Rising Star Scott Pye has taken all before him as he enters the second half of his season competing in the MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain. Pye currently leads the championship outright following his two race wins at Brands Hatch recently; taking his tally to eleven wins from twenty rounds.

Off the track Pye was recently recognised by the British Racing Drivers Club as a Rising Star, joining an impressive list of past Rising Stars. This is a fantastic effort and the AMSF wishes Scott all the best for the remainder of the season and his pursuit of the record of race victories in any one season (which currently sits at fourteen).

Fellow AMSF International Rising Stars Daniel Erickson and Molly Taylor have also done Australia proud overseas. Daniel Erickson has enjoyed a rewarding season competing in the American F2000 Championship. Erickson completed the season last weekend, finishing in third position overall and taking out the Rookie of the Year title. The AMSF is very proud of Daniel’s achievements. Please see the detailed story below on Daniel’s final round at Mid Ohio. Molly Taylor has one round remaining in the Citroen Racing Trophy, part of the British Rally Championship. Molly currently sits in third position with the championship title up for grabs going into the final round in North Yorkshire.

The AMSF International Rising Star Class of 2010 has amassed an impressive sixteen race victories, twenty-two podium places and eighteen pole positions thus far; a fantastic effort that all associated with the AMSF should be very proud of.

Scott Pye, Molly Taylor and Daniel Erickson’s results are consistent with many AMSF supported and previously funded drivers who are succeeding on the international stage. AMSF Patron Mark Webber sits in second position in the Formula 1™ Drivers Championship with six rounds remaining; while former AMSF funded driver Will Power is leading the IZOD IndyCar Series with two round remaining. Former AMSF funded driver and Red Bull Reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo sits in second position in the World Series by Renault Series with two rounds remaining. The AMSF is very proud of all Australians competing overseas and wishes them all the best as we reach the conclusion of their respective 2010 campaigns.

Moving away from the track, the AMSF recently began the process of revising the inaugural strategic plan. A very productive workshop was held in July to ensure the Foundation thrives and prospers as the organisation enters its next, exciting phase. I will ensure I keep you informed of the progress and communicate the outcomes of the revised strategic plan.
