The ideas, recommendations and commitment that came out of the Summit have set the agenda for how we can tackle the big issues and find the best possible solutions for the overall future of CAMS and motor sport.
On behalf of the Board and management, I would like to thank all the delegates who attended Summit ’09 and we look forward to honouring your commitment to make the sport and CAMS a better place. Please see the feature box below for a detailed report on Summit ’09.
September also saw a wholly owned company of CAMS successfully promote and conduct the first ever world championship event directly conducted by CAMS, in the form of Rally Australia, a round of the prestigious World Rally Championship (WRC). While not without its very significant challenges associated with the planning and conduct of this international event, the focus and dedication of all involved, again was a testament of the passion and capability of our people. Once again this put CAMS and Australian Motor Sport on the world stage in the picturesque area of the Northern Rivers region of NSW. Well done to all involved and an article on this event is included in this edition.
This month, CAMS also continued its involvement in the 2009 FORMULA 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix as the official race organisation consultant and officials training provider.
In its second year, the Singapore night race was once again an incredible and spectacular event. This is no doubt testament to all the hard work and dedication put in by the CAMS team and officials and a credit to our Singaporean colleagues who have excelled in the delivery of such a tremendous world class event. Congratulations and thank you to all involved.
In another significant move for CAMS, I have been progressing for some time a review and restructure of the Motor Sport Department. Recent staff departures and re-structuring of the staff establishment and budget have provided me an opportunity to bring forward the outcomes of this restructure. In my opinion this is well overdue in order for CAMS to move forward in our overall change program.
This is an important organisational change and one which I believe will hold us in good stead to meet the current and emerging issues for the future. The Motor Sport Department restructure is outlined in more detail in an article below.
I would like to take this opportunity to also congratulate Daniel Ricciardo on winning the 2009 British Formula 3 Championship. Daniel’s success demonstrates not only the joy associated with our sport but also the reward that comes from passion, dedication and hard work. This is a very significant achievement on the international motor sport stage, one that CAMS is extremely proud of and one that I am sure many young Australian drivers will also aspire to achieve.
